My Reflections on The Hidden Cost of Untreated Anxiety
I believe that anxiety doesn't just affect how you feel. Often times, it affects your work, relationships and your sense of wellbeing.
Some professionals I have worked with in sessions often describe patterns they've been managing for years, such as Decision paralysis, which might look like you spending hours overthinking emails or avoiding difficult conversations.
Or experiencing Perfectionism that backfires when you find yourself working late just to make things flawless, then feeling bitter and resentful afterwards.
Other patterns might include ruptures in Relationships when you find yourself snapping at loved ones, withdrawing when you’re stressed or feeling guilty about both.
Also experiencing Imposter syndrome where you find yourself downplaying your achievements or avoiding opportunities that come your way and waiting to be "found out".
Physical and emotional symptoms might look like feeling stuck, hopeless, trouble relaxing, poor sleep, clenched fists, tightness in your chest and abdomen, little appetite or binge eating, chronic digestive issues, constant fatigue, feeling nervous or on edge. Or perhaps you’re always worrying about different things and can’t switch off.
Here's what I would like you to understand. These patterns are signals often indicating overwhelming anxiety that would benefit from professional support before you experience the crises of burnout.
Perhaps not everyone needs therapy, but if anxiety is consistently affecting your quality of life and self-help strategies aren't helping, then perhaps it’s worth exploring.
Therapy for anxiety isn't a quick fix. It takes commitment from you and can be uncomfortable at times, but what clients tell me is that understanding their anxiety and where it comes from and how to manage it, is what has created lasting change.
Some people benefit from therapy alone. Others find a combination of therapy and medication most helpful. I would say the right approach depends on you because everyone is uniquely wired. If this resonates with you and you're wondering what support might look like, let's talk.
I offer a free 15-20minute consultation to explore what you can expect from therapy and how it can help in giving you the tools and choices to sharpen your executive function, build your emotional stamina and prevent burnout.
