FAQs

How long is a session?

An individual counselling session is 50 minutes.

Where will the session take place?

Counselling takes place online from my home in Weybridge.

Is it better to meet in person?

This is a matter of personal preference, however, I believe that the nature of the client-therapist relationship is the most important factor and this can be achieved in person or online. I have extensive experience working remotely with NHS talk therapy and hold a BACP certificate in online and telephone counselling.

How will it help me?

Some clients come to sessions feeling stuck or describing a sense of dread or hopelessness. Thoughts of who they are or aspire to become seems unclear. These feelings can carry a heavy burden associated with high levels of anxiety, imposter syndrome, perfectionism or low self-worth. Such lived experiences will be looked at in terms of your past and present circumstances.

I offer an integrative therapy, drawing from a range of therapeutic approaches which can be adapted to the evolving needs of each client. A good therapeutic relationship provides a safe and reparative space to explore negative patterns of behaviour and work towards authenticity, growth and change.

How many sessions do I need?

Every client is unique and may experience different issues. I would suggest an initial block of 6 to 12 sessions which can be reduced or increased, but the choice is yours. We will talk about your goals for therapy and if you have specific expectations, I work to support and guide you in achieving them. However, clients who have experienced trauma may require longer term therapy. I would also review our sessions regularly to check in with you.

When do you work?

Monday to Friday.

How often will I see you?

This depends on you. However, it is recommended that sessions are weekly, at least initially. For the benefit of continuity I can offer regular slots, however for clients who need to work around other commitments I can provide a more flexible arrangement.

How much will it cost?

Free 15 mins initial telephone session.

An individual adult - 50 minutes counselling session is £65.

Trainee counsellors - concessions offered subject to available slots.

Mode of payment is by bank transfer and I would ask that this is made on the day of your appointment prior to each session.

Cancellations

I accept that cancellations are sometimes inevitable, but if this is not done within 24 hours of the session, the full fee is charged.

How do we know when to end?

You can choose to work open-ended and stop when you wish.

What makes you different to other counsellors?

We are all unique and as such there are no two human beings alike in the world, regardless of how similar some of us may appear to be at first. I would suggest trying out several counsellors to gain a feel for who's right for you. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of successful counselling.

Will you prescribe medication if I need it?

No. Psychotherapists and counsellors should not 'diagnose' medically related conditions and are not able to prescribe medication for clients. If you feel that medication is something you need, then please contact your GP in the first instance.
